It is Saturday morning in beautiful Cape Town, the sun is shining and it is going to be a great day. I promised to share with you my interests and what is "tickling my fancy" at any particular time.
Reading.
The great source of information and of learning.
If you are passionate about marketing and consumer behaviour you will be ecstatic to read Retail Anthropology (www.retailanthropology.com). Follow the trends and the insights of this author who obviously is as passionate about consumer behaviour as some of us. I have copied a photo from her site to share with you and to "wet your appetite." She mentions three things that consumers are seeking from their retail experience, entertainment, information and power, she also mentions that consumer decision making has changed in the information age. My interpretation below:
1) Unmet need, want or demand
2) Information search - online for information and price and then to the shops to touch, feel and squeeze (remember "Hey Whipple squeeze this") and for the retail experience mentioned above. Then back home for more online searching and then.....
3) Evaluation (Evoked set and consideration set etc)
4) Hey Presto - DECISION
5) Order online
6) After sales experience
In this day and age the Consumer really has the power and you the marketer/retailer can only ensure that your information sources are the best, well presented, where the prospect expects to find the information and lastly a keen understanding of the expected retail experience. This will assist you in creating and retaining DELIGHTED CUSTOMERS.
